“What’s wrong with the kids?”

without comments

something interesting from something boring…came across this while doing research for work…

Wanted: Candidate with undergraduate degree in finance/accounting. Long hours not requiredcome and go as you please. Spend as much time Web-surfing as you want. Work on the projects you like and refuse the rest. If you don’t feel like finishing a project, your manager will gladly take it. Excellent salary and benefits; on-the-job napping encouraged.

Far-fetched? While 30 years ago no one would have posted such a ludicrous help-wanted ad, these days finance managers in the United States say they have become all too familiar with exactly this kind of employee. Consultants have even coined a name for this new breed of entitled worker: they call them millennials.

The millenials are appearing in Asia as well, particularly in China, where the little emperors and empresses produced by the one-child policy are all grown up and entering the work force. They tend to expect fat pay raises and rapid promotions, and these days their bosses have little choice—Asia’s continuing economic boom is exacerbating a long-standing shortage of finance skills.

some observers say millennials are less willing than previous generations of workers to endure prickly situations.

Still, some CFOs have come to appreciate the talents that most millennials bring to their jobs. Many are more technologically adroit than their bosses.

Sounds like such a familiar situation I used to face a few years back and what eric is always shouting about haha. and the worst part is, some of these so-called millenials don’t even have some sort of talent to offer, just know how to whine. So how?

推你去死

with 2 comments

今天在跟qh吃午餐時,我終于下了一個定論

原來我們這一班豬朋狗友,在別人面前是好到不行,友情堅固,可是在別人背後卻一個一個的猛推彼此去死!!!

mooch books

without comments

Surfed to Bookmooch after reading a newspaper article. very interesting premise, better than Bookcrossing I feel. I like their philosophy: Why create this? If you’re passionate about books, you know how emotionally difficult it is to throw a book away, even if you will never read it again. You want to find a good home for your books, have them find someone who appreciates them.

I might try this out, seeing as how I’m having difficulty selling books on yahoo auctions. but cynical me just wonders how abuse-able it is.

lego, taiwan band, piracy

without comments

what do the 3 things have in common?  read on…

doing some research for work, i came across this name, Jesper Just Jensen, director of lego serious play. naturally (but of course!!) something like this requires more serious research (it’s Lego!!!) so I googled for his name and hit upon this Play Up! interview conducted by pool magazine editor-in-chief Helmut Wolf.

He quotes Paulo Coelho (I’m having trouble finding the actual occurence of the quote) “a child can always teach an adult three things: being happy without reason, always being occupied with something and being emphatic about what you want”. the quote puts a smile on my face for 2 reasons: the first, I would like to be that. the second, and very dumb, reason, it brings to mind 5 taiwanese boys in particular.  why?  I’m sure a few of the mafia aka jm can tell u why

On another note, I wiki-ed Mr Coelho (not for the first time as I’ve been meaning to read The Alchemist for 2 years already), and find out that he’s an Advocate of Piracy!!  woot!!

out of office, out of brain

without comments

brain not working properly recently.  I turned on my ‘out of office’ message ytdy coz I was out on 1/2 day leave.  While editing the message, I kept feeling that something was wrong with it, but for the life of me couldn’t put my finger on it.

this am my mgr asked me why my ‘out of office’ was still turned on.  this is what it read:

I will be out of the office on the afternoon of 4 Feb with limited access to my emails.  I will reply to your queries once I am back in the office on 5 Feb.  I apologize for any inconvenience caused.

very inconvenient indeed.

methinks it’s time for a holiday!
