bad, brain, bad
正在慢慢享受《等一個人咖啡》,不捨得一次過把它拼完。可是不知爲什麽,終把阿拓的樣子想成刀桑的樣子。我腦袋真沒禮貌!哈哈哈!
Made good use of the 25% discount coupon that came with pre-ordering HP&TDH and quickly bought these 2 since it’s expiring tmrw. I haven’kept up with Douglas Coupland since I still haven’t finished reading Microserfs. The Popular guy wouldn’t let me use the $10 off coupon on the 3rd book though. No matter, coz they didn’t have The Alchemist, well they did but I’m not paying $50.80 for a hard-cover, even if it is Paulo Coelho.

來不及聽你說愛我
Not as good a read as I expected, and a rather too-tame storyline to expect from a male author. Maybe I’ll get his “二房客” series instead.
That’s the 3rd I’ve finished this month, including HP n the Deathly Hallows (but this was more of a speed, rather leisure, read). Nothing to be proud of though. Still wondering about Mr Nine-Knives tho, as shir has confirmed that he is an un-put-down-able read…crap.
dun spoil(er) the mood
looks like cannot go online these few days, coz apparently HP and TDH kena leaked. Now i’m starting to see “Harry Potter Spoilers” everywhere. nabehz.
reads
I finally managed to finish one book. OK la, a bit embarassing since i’ve already watched the drama on vcd, ermm, 5 times?

But it’s been a long long time since I have actually read and finished a novel, much less in chinese. to think I used to devour at least 2 books a month. must buck up again!
Waiting eagerly for HP and the Deathly Hallows, 9 more days to go! There’s a fun Book FAQ over at The Leaky Cauldron, offering nuggets like “There will be no Quidditch.” (of course Harry might not be going back to Hogwarts), “There is yet more to Petunia than we know” and much much more about Harry and his family and friends, a lot of which were confirmed (?) by JK Rowling would be revealed in Book 7. It looks like Book 7 is going to be heavy enough to knock Hagrid senseless. I wonder if i have time to review Half-Blood Prince again.
Still waiting for a chance to pick up the Shopaholic series again. I stopped at Shopaholic Abroad coz I lost patience with Becky’s dithering and dathering after just 2 books
. Also waiting for a chance to pick up several Paulo Coelhos, finish up the Alexander series, the concluding book Time Odyssey trilogy, the 2 Alexander Besher book MIR and CHI, and several other novels and series that I left hanging.
And that’s only the English portion. I’m still looking forward to returning to 成品 next year when we go back to Taipei. I wonder how many kilograms of books and magazines will come back with me
12 hours later – got back home and snuck a look at my bookshelves.
Forgot to add the George R Martin epic, A Song of Fire and Ice, which I’ve only finished 1.5 books so far, each being abt 900+ pages long. paperbacks only, please. Book 3 is sitting there looking pissed because I have yet to start on him, Book 4 has been out in the shops for 2 years, and Books 5,6 and 7 are forthcoming, so says Mr Martin on his website.
The Alexander trilogy is by Valerio Massimo Manfredi, of which so far I’ve only finished the 1st book, 2 years ago, over a period of 10days in Taipei with the mafia. It’s a fascinating read, esp for history buffs.
i realised that i have purposely forgotten abt my long-awaited 九把刀, because i have an extremely strong suspicion that his books are un-put-down-able, ergo I cannot pick it up now when I am already running short of hours and sleep everyday.
still others like a 250-page discourse on actor Stephen Chow and the 星爺 effect, Paradise Lost in chinese (still unwrapped), my lao da’s 風景 (yes it’s mainly photos, but his thoughts are penned down, and I’d like to savour them slowly, even if I get laughed at for savouring words from the biggest taike in taiwan), 康’s opium and milk, ryu murakami’s 69. And these are only the ones on the front part of the shelves.

I saw this being linked from Boingboing. I like the little dig, especially since I’m so very anti-ebook.

I am chicken
I almost met Colin Cheong. I even saw him in the flesh, less than 50m from where I stood lurked. He is so cool.
I came across ads for the Asia Media Festival sometime early this week and saw the there was actually a bookclub in Singapore, and they were actually having a discussion on ‘The Stolen Child’ on Friday. That being my favourite book by my favourite Singaporean author, I of course decided to go take a look. Of course, being lazy, I decided not to read the book (since I have read it at least 5 times before) and I also decided not to find out where the Earshot Cafe was until the last minute.
Yesterday, 3 hours before the meeting actually started, I find out that it’s located at The Arts House at the Old Parliament House. So after a whole week of being jobless and thus decaying at home (I already said I’m lazy), I made my way to City Hall and to the unbelivably posh posh posh Arts House. I then proceeded to gawk my way past all the valet parking guys, security guards and expensive restaurants, i found the Earshot only to lose my nerve when I saw Colin Cheong standing inside exchanging small talk, and it seemed that everybody knew everybody.
Hanging around outside the place trying to build up my nerve to wlk in, I then proceeded to lose even more of it when I saw somebody who must have been Teo Chee Hean make his way with security and escorts into the place. Several minutes later, I totally lost it when I saw a couple who looked dressed up for dinner at a $500-a-head dinner walk into the cafe and Colin Cheong enjoying a glass of wine, and so I strolled back to the MRT station, beating myself up mentally at the same time.
I am so chicken. I almost met Colin Cheong.
