NaBoPoMo

without comments

This looks fun…NaBoPoMo, the National Blog Posting Month where you have to post 1 blog post a day for a whole month. It’s the blogger version of NaNoWriMo.

Given that it takes me 2 months to put up 1 post on a 4 day tri, I’d probably have to sweat bullets just to do NaBoPoMo.  But it still sounds fun!

Just realised that I should have posted a map to the place, from ladysilver’s comment.  Here it is!

It’s at Boon Lay Food Centre, right at the front corner facing the carpark.  If you go at night, you can just tell by the queue in front of it :D

Buses to take: 99, 240, 246

How, Sony Ericsson?

without comments

Reading the below excerpt on SECentral forum, I’m wondering if I should also part company with Sony Ericsson.  Although I’ve been a long time advocate of SE phones, it’s been hard trying to find a phone I really like.  The new phones they keep releasing are just clones of current or previous ones, and the clam shells (my favourite style) just, well, suck.

Sony Chief Executive Officer Sir Howard Stringer speaks to DIE WELT about competitors, consumer behavior, Google’s lessons and a difficult year with Ericsson.

excerpt of the Interview

Question In some segments you have sought refuge in joint ventures. Sony Ericsson, the mobile phone producer, is currently in decline.
Isn’t it time to part company with Ericsson?

Stringer: It’s certainly been a difficult year, but, buying out a partner is never an easy thing.

Question So you are thinking about it?
Stringer: One of the most important attributes in the digital age is to be nimble and it is hard to be as nimble in a joint venture as it is with your own company, because you’re always engaged in discussion and negotiation; we and Ericsson are always discussing ways of making Sony Ericsson as successful as it possibly can be.

Question Will Sony Ericsson still exist in three years’ time?
Stringer: We have to work together again as we did two years ago or the joint venture will have to find its own solution.

Question That was a diplomatic answer.
Stringer: That was my intention.

The whole interview here.

GSMArena previews the HTC HD

without comments

GSMArena posted their preview of the HTC HD.

Key points? fabulously massive screen estate at 3.8“, 3.5mm audio jack, soft-touch rubbery back panel, 5mp camera, microSD. I’m guessing this will accept a 8gb microSD, not too sure about a 16gb though.

Minuses? WinMo, TouchFlo technology still can’t live up to the infinite touchability of the iPhone, no LED/camera flash, stylus on lower corner, it’s magnetic to prevent falling out, but i’m looking at many losses from people with butter fingers, no hardware key for camera shutter. I also have feedback from friends to switch back to a non-touch phone, to prevent blank or error-filled smses (I’m not a fan of the T9 dictionary).

Enjoy the pics, then read more at GSMArena.

boon lay nasi lemak, power

with 8 comments

There was a time when I was quite a fan of the famous boon lay nasi lemak.  until i realised i might well get a heart attack from eating nasi lemak at 2am in the morning too often.  Why 2am?  because the nasi lemak stall only starts selling at 10pm at night.

3 years ago, the queues snaked around like crazy, even at 2am in the morning.   3 years later, the queues are still there.  But i’ve given up waiting 30minutes, even if the rice and chilli and chicken wings are to die for.  I do miss the chicken wings though.  They are GOOD.  so good that I’ve seen some uni students order just 2-3 wings to eat with their nasi.  Maybe I should risk the queue again.

But it was only until now, that I realised, that famous stall, subject to comparisons to the famous changi village nasi lemak, actually has a website.  Yes, Power Nasi Lemak is very much powered up to the internet.

Life in Boon Lay

without comments

I’ve been living in Boon Lay for the major part of my life.  It used to be an interesting place when I was in primary school, because you get loads of time to wander around the neighbourhood after school.  There are nooks and crannies, even within that small little town, to fill up a lot of time.  There were some bengs and gangsters hanging around, and there was the occasional fight at the hawker centre, but it made the little town just that much more fun.

After a while, the rest of Singapore seemed more exciting, so Boon Lay got a little dull and a little colourless, and I couldn’t bear to stay in that place.  With an influx of Thai foreign workers, it also got a little sleazy and dingy and dangerous.

Recently, with a major immgration wave of foreign workers, Boon Lay seems to have become a second little  india or chinatown.  I can’t walk anywhere without encountering a foreign face or accent.  But our little town is still pretty happening, judging by the searches on soso.com.
